Design and Technical Overview
A multi-tier technical and functional architecture separates the user interface (presentation layer) from the application layer and again from the database management layer. The functional architecture of the software is modular. The financial aid software is comprehensive and scalable to handle student populations ranging from 1,000 to well over 50,000, portable from one computing system platform to another all while maintaining ease of use.
The information exchange APIs provided with the software facilitate integration with other student information systems used by an institution.
ProSAM is a Windows GUI presentation layer that shares the full financial aid functionality and features of its predecessor, the SAM On Line screens.
ProSAM also leverages the graphic and text handling features of Windows to add functionality to modules such as Memorandum, Letters to students and email.
It uses flexible client/server technology and integrates with institutional student data systems as well as other enterprise applications.
Sigma's commitment to technology is evident in several ways. Perhaps most significant is the broad set of computing platforms and databases on which the software operates. Computer system platforms supported include large mainframes, mini and micro servers with main frame, Unix and Windows operating systems.
Also significant is the use of technology, including XML, to facilitate information exchange with student information systems developed by customers or by other software vendors.
